Description

Chaenorhinum – Dwarf Snapdragon –

There are about 20 species of annuals and perennials, in this genus. They occur in dry, often stony soil in the Mediterranean region and in Turkey. They have branching, erect or spreading stems that carry 2 lipped, snapdragon-like flowers, held either singly or in terminal racemes. It produces opposite, simple, smooth edge leaves. They are suitable for a rock garden, scree bed, or alpine house.

Grow in well drained soil in full sun. Protect from winter moisture.

Prone to slugs and snails.

C. glareosum – Linaria glareosum – This prostrate to upright, mat forming perennial, from Southern Spain grows 2″ tall and 6-8″ wide. From spreading runners sprouts scale like, ovate to rounded, hairy, bluish green leaves, to ½” long. From early to late summer it bears racemes of pale pinkish violet flowers, ½-1″ long, with yellow spurs and throats.
