There are about 50 species of annuals and clump forming perennials that are semi evergreen to evergreen in this genus. \u00a0They spread by above and underground creeping roots may become invasive. \u00a0Derives from temperate Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. \u00a0They bear rosette of opposite leaves occasional toothed lengthen into spikes of 2 lipped tubular usually blue flowers from spring to early summer. \u00a0It\u2019s a great ground cover in shaded moist areas.<\/p>\n

Their frost hardy trouble free plants that grow in moist soil in partial shade or part day sun. \u00a0Foliage may scorch in full sun although bronze and variegated develop best color in sun.<\/p>\n

Prone Southern blight, fungal root rot, snails and slugs<\/i><\/em>\u00a0damage.<\/p>\n

Ajuga reptans <\/b><\/strong>\u2018Catlins Giant\u2019<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 European Bugle \u2013 Common Bugle \u2013 Blue Bugle \u2013 Carpet Bugle<\/b><\/strong> \u2013 Is the most commonly grown Ajuga. \u00a0This evergreen spreads by above ground runner making a mat of leafy rosettes 6\u201d tall but can spread indefinitely. \u00a0In spring 8\u201d tall spikes dark blue \u00bd\u201d flowers.<\/p>\n
