Viburnums are suitable for a shrub border or woodland garden, hedging, and attracting wildlife. \u00a0If fruits are desired, plant several seedlings of the same species together.<\/p>\n

Grow in any moderately fertile, moist but well drained soil in full sun or partial shade, most are drought tender. \u00a0Where not hardy, shelter from cold drying winds. \u00a0Most deciduous Viburnums tolerate hard pruning.<\/p>\n

Prone to gray mold (Botrytis), rust, downy mildew, powdery mildew, wood rot, verticillium wilt, leaf spots, dieback, aphids, scale insects, weevils, Japanese beetle, mealybugs, tree hoppers<\/i><\/em>\u00a0and lepidoptera<\/i><\/em>.<\/p>\n

V. x rhytidophylloides <\/b><\/strong>\u2018Willowood\u2019 <\/b><\/strong><\/b>\u2013 This spreading, semi evergreen shrub or small tree is a cross between V. lantana and V. rhytidophyllum, grows 10-20 feet tall and wide. \u00a0Its arching shoots are clothed in deeply veined, long oval, wavy margined glossy, dark green leaves, to 8\u201d long, with paler undersides. \u00a0In late spring, small tubular, dull yellowish to pinkish white flowers, \u00bc\u201d across, are borne in flattened, terminal, umbel like cymes, to 4\u201d across, they are followed by egg shaped red fruit, 3\/8\u201d long, which ripen to black.<\/p>\n
