Alchemilla \u2013 Lady\u2019s Mantle<\/b><\/strong><\/p>\n

There are about 300 species of clump forming perennials, in this genus. They are found in light woodland and some rocky habitants in North temperate and arctic zones and from Africa, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia. \u00a0Valued for their foliage and frothy sprays of flowers. \u00a0Most have woody creeping roots and shallowly to palmately lobed rounded or kidney shaped attractively pleated or often covered with fine hairs. \u00a0They bear 1\/8\u201d wide green or yellowish green that are long lasting and great for cut flowers. \u00a0Many species have styptic and other medicinal properties.<\/p>\n

These frost hardy species grow in any moist soil that\u2019s humus rich in sun or partial shade but foliage will deteriorate in summer heat. \u00a0Divided in late winter to early spring.<\/p>\n

Prone to slugs and snail<\/i><\/em>\u00a0damage.<\/p>\n

Alchemilla mollis<\/b><\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 This widely grown clump forming perennial grows 2\u2019 feet tall and 30\u201d inches wide. \u00a0It has decorative wavy edge leaves that hold dew or raindrops to give sparkling effect, and the 9-11 lobed, toothed, densely soft hairy pale green to 6\u201d long. \u00a0In summer to early autumn it bears masses of small sprays of greenish yellow flowers. \u00a0It\u2019s drought tolerant cultivar.<\/p>\n
