Borago<\/strong> –<\/p>\n

There are about 3 species of generally erect annuals and short lived perennials, in this genus. They occur in rocky places in Europe, and the Mediterranean. They have hairy stems that carry simple, alternate, lance shaped, roughly hairy leaves. In late spring it bears nodding, starry, purple-blue or white flowers carried in branching cymes in late spring. Flowers are a rich source of nectar and are popular with bee keepers.<\/p>\n

Grow in any light, moist, well drained soil in full sun. Can become invasive.<\/p>\n

Prone to powdery mildew, <\/em>and snails.<\/em><\/p>\n

B. pygmaea – B. laxiflora<\/strong> – This short lived perennial from rosettes and is from Corsica and Sardinia and grows 12-24″ tall and wide. It produces ovate to lance shaped, mainly basal leaves, 2-8″ long, and branched, decumbent stems. From early summer into autumn it bears loose cymes of bell shaped, clear light blue flowers, to \u00bd” across, atop of weak stems. Plant in moist soil in partial shade.<\/p>\n
