Anthyllis Montana \u2013 This Alpine and mountain clump forming, woody-based perennial from Southern Europe grows to 12\u201d tall and spreads to about 30\u201d wide. It produces pinnate leaves to 2 \u00bd\u201d long consisting of 8-15 or more narrowly elliptic to egg shape-oblong silky haired gray-green leaflets. In late spring and early summer it bears red, pink, or purple white-tipped flowers to \u00bd\u201d long in dense spherical clover-like heads \u00be-1 \u00bc\u201d wide held above the foliage.<\/p>\n

\nThere are around 25 species of annuals, perennials, and shrubs found on rocky cliffs or in open grasslands in the Mediterranean, in this genus. They produce pinnate or 3-palmate leaves with leaflets which are often small and closely crowded. From spring to summer it bears racemes of pea like flowers of yellow, cream, red or pink in dense heads occasionally in clusters or singly from the leaf axils.
\nThere easily grown, thriving in areas with long hot summers and tolerates poor dry soils that are well drained in full sun. Trim plants after flowering. Great for a rock garden or in the front of a mixed border.
